October we are starting a college and career search. Students will work with Ms. Cunnie from the College and Career Center with the Naviance program by first doing a career exploration inventory. From there students will explore either a career cluster that comes from the inventory (health care, law enforcement, business, etc.) or one they have already decided to pursue.
Students will write a paper on a career that will include job outlook (will the job be feasible financially, what are the hiring possibilities, what are the chances for advancement, etc); what kind of classes should students consider while they are still in high school, what kind of majors and schools should they look at, and what does it take to get into the career they have chosen.
When we have completed the career search the students will focus on at least 2 schools, one private and one public.. They will research the schools and give a power point presentation to the class
On October 21 students will attend a career panel about First Responders (on campus). On November 4 there are two panels; one regarding careers in Law Enforcement and the other is a Health Panel. Students will be able to make a chose the panel they would like to attend.
We will also continue with "philosophical chairs" on Mondays and tutorial on Wednesday.
